# Child Theme

### <mark style="color:purple;">Use Child Themes to Modify Theme</mark>

{% hint style="info" %}
A child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Currently, we will provide some customized Child Theme templates according to specific functions. You can download and use it the way you want.

<mark style="color:orange;">**Why use a Child Theme?**</mark>

There are a few reasons why you would want to use a child theme:

* **If you modify a theme directly and it is updated, then your modifications may be lost. By using a child theme you will ensure that your modifications are preserved.**
* **Using a child theme can speed up development time.**
* **Using a child theme is a great way to learn about WordPress theme development.**

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://thembay-docs.gitbook.io/maia/child-theme.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
